digitisation & restoration

Digitisation is the process of converting the analog audio stored in the grooves of a record into a digital audio file that can be archived, edited, streamed, or played on modern devices. Audio restoration is often performed alongside digitization to reduce the noise and physical artifacts inherent in record grooves,  while preserving the character of the original recording.

The process begins with careful preparation of the record itself. First, the record is ultrasonically cleaned, we then ultrasonically clean the nude diamond stylus on the turntable for the cleanest transfer possible.

The record is then played with the signal being run through a phono preamplifier. Once amplified, the analog signal is sent into an audio interface where it is converted into digital audio and recorded in a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW).

Once captured, the restoration stage begins. This process starts with click and pop removal, noise-reduction, normalisation and equalisation. Finally, the new digital master is edited into separate tracks, then it is exported into digital formats such as WAV, FLAC, or MP3 for streaming, archiving and use in Digital Vinyl Systems such as Serato or Rekordbox.

Prices for digitisation and restoration are as follows, however if you have a significant amount of records to do, please get in touch as a great deal can always be done.
